Kinder Koncerts

Linda and Shearn Platt Kinder Koncerts

Kinder Koncerts are designed to take the orchestra out of the concert hall and into neighborhoods to perform for our youngest patrons (pre-school through 2nd grade). Using churches, libraries and schools as community centers, these performances allow the San Diego Symphony to reach all segments of our community.

Kinder Koncerts are offered free of charge.

Kinder Koncerts are generously sponsored by Linda and Shearn Platt.

Partnership Information

Kinder Koncerts are designed to take the orchestra out of the concert hall and into neighborhoods to perform for our youngest patrons (pre-school through 2nd grade). Using churches, libraries and schools as community centers, these performances allow the San Diego Symphony Orchestra to reach all segments of our community.

The value of the orchestra services for a Kinder Koncert is approximately $8,000-$10,000. Although there is no actual charge to the host, we do consider this a community partnership where both the Orchestra and the host venue contribute to the success of the program.

The San Diego Symphony Orchestra provides:

  • A chamber orchestra (approximately 20-25 musicians) and conductor,
  • a truck to move equipment,
  • stage crew for set-up and take down of our instruments,
  • suggestions for people to invite,
  • a staff liaison to work with.

Our host venue provides:

  • A space large enough to accommodate the chamber orchestra plus an audience of at least 100 people,
  • the venue rent-free and all custodial and security services associated with the concert,
  • parking spaces as needed for the musicians, stage crew and administrative staff and someone to direct traffic,
  • parking space for our truck to load in and out,
  • assistance with publicity to local community groups, churches and schools,
  • someone to introduce and welcome the orchestra at the beginning of the concert,
  • someone to serve as the contact person for your organization.

We hope that our joint efforts and enthusiasm will ensure a successful concert in your neighborhood. If you have any questions about the information above, please call Adrienne Valencia, Director of Education and Community Engagement at 619.615.3911 or email her at avalencia@sandiegosymphony.org.
