Jennifer Higdon is a contemporary American composer of classical music. She has been awarded the 2010 Pulitzer Prize in music for her Violin Concerto in addition to many other awards and honors. She grew up in Georgia and Tennessee playing in her high school's concert band. She later studied at Bowling Green State University and majored in flute performance. She earned an Artist's Diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music and a Master's Degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She currently teaches composition at the Curtis Institute of Music. She has received commissions from and written pieces for orchestras such as The Chicago Symphony, The Cleveland Orchestra, and the Atlanta Symphony.
